| Well, it hasn't quite been 4 months since I last posted but certainly
long enough! I have been enjoying reading everybody's accounts of
life at COTW. Dan--has Todd Williams showed up yet? Ning--have
you been carrying enough "sanitary napkins" in your apron?
haha--that's a word slip I'll never let you forget!
I have been doing well in East Lansing, but I do miss Speculator.
Most of my days at work here have been spent restoring missing parts
from the scores on Finale. I also catalogued the (jazz) library,
which was a huge job. On a brighter note, I have been able to
play a lot and also teach, which is fun and good for the pocket.
I'm traveling to PA again in a week to see my family and celebrate my
b-day. (Jul--are you around??) Please pray that my car holds
up--I have been having car troubles due to the former owner's stupidity
and just had a huge repair job done. It always makes me nervous
to make a large trip after my car has just been worked on.
Gotta run, but wanted to update briefly.
Take care, y'all!

| God is good! He has already provided me with enough work for next year to fill in the gaps of my light super-senior year schedule and enough accompanying money to make the work hours well worth it! Now I just have to figure out where in my schedule I can get some sleep...
I have only a few classes left to take next year, which is good because I may need to take a couple of days off here and there to visit/audition at grad schools. Don't ask me where yet...I kind of have to find a place that has a good flute professor but is also in an area where there is a good jazz community for me to become a part of. Hmm...that leaves NY. The other possibility is San Francisco Music Conservatory, where my teacher's (jazz) old teacher teaches 2 miles down the road and has already agreed to take me under his wing if I end up in San Fran. Too bad San Francisco is on the other side of the US...oh well, if it's meant to be, God will make it work out.
My week at "home" in PA is coming to an end. I say "home" because this is the first time I've lived in this house! It's a nice house, though, and my parents are happy here. Next week I will start my summer job back at school. I will miss my parents and my dog, and I'll definitely miss my buddies from COTW but I think this is the best option for me at this point. And, many of my friends from school are going to be around still, so I won't be lonely.
Well, I guess this means good-bye for another 4 months or so....haha--keep in touch y'all!
| oops, I neglected to say which lead alto player, etc.--they were all members of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, phenomenal musicians.
haha--Dan, I didn't even read your last comment on my ancient post until after I wrote the new one--I guess even my subconcious was warning me of the smooth jazz threat
| Relax, relax, I'm still alive, contrary to what xanga may have led you to believe...
Right now, school is beautiful, and here's why: all I have to do for the entire rest of the school year (well, the rest of the week...) is play my saxophone! Jazz jury tomorrow, gig after the jury, gig on Friday afternoon, and I'm playing in a friend's jazz recital Friday night. Then school's out for the summer!!!!! (School's out for-ever...oh wait, shoot! I've got another 6 years...haha)
Let's see, major events that happened this semester...got to premier a piece with Stefon Harris (killin' jazz vibraphonist); last week the lead alto player, bari player, and a trombone player (Andre Heyward) joined the professors of jazz here to form an octet and played three concerts around southern MI which I somehow managed to get into free; I had a "lesson" with Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson (lead alto) while taking him back to the Detroit Metro Airport. Oh yeah, and I played my flute every once in a while too... Flute was kind of a drag this semester, though, because my normal professor was on sabbatical and his replacement was awful. But I made some large strides with my saxophone/jazz playing which I'm happy about.
Is jazz what my real passion is? Well, yes, it is. The question is, would it be way too crazy to pursue a career as a jazz musician? ...and a white female jazz musician at that... But I also don't want to quit the flute, because I still feel like I have something to say in that field too. Ahhhhh!!!!!! At least I have another year here then grad school and such to figure out what I want to/can do with my life. If anyone has any answers, let me know! hahaha
I hope you are all doing well and ending your school years in style. Lata!

| So, I'm not so good at this updating xanga thing, but enough things have happened over the past week that I felt I should chime in a bit.
First of all, NING AND DAN ARE ENGAGED!!!! Woooot!
On another completely different note, my family is moving once again. For those of you who don't know the whole story, my family has had to move all over the place many times in a short period of time because my dad's work place was continually having problems, so eventually we ended up having to buy a house that was not exactly what we were looking for in PA. With much searching, they found a beautiful house and bought it just in time--almost lost it to another buyer. I am happy that they are very happy about this decision, but moving is a real drag.
Another issue I've been dealing with is what to do this summer. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll end up at COTW again. However, I was offered a great job where I would have to stay in MI over the summer, would make good money, and would get to do some gigging, including playing a church gig with Rodney Whitaker 3 times a month (whoaaa!) I would also likely do regular jazz gigs and possibly teach a couple of students. The only problem is, I need to find somewhere to stay soon so that I can accept the position before it's taken by someone else. I am praying for God's guidance and would appreciate your prayers as well.
Well, that's the news from Lake Wobegon...
P.S. Just because I probably won't be back at COTW doesn't mean I won't still keep in touch!
